2 Sisters Food Group gains Welsh government backing
The firm has five manufacturing sites in Wales that will benefit from the move, which among other things gives it access to a dedicated account manager, enabling a closer working relationship with government.
The Welsh government said that anchor companies were global or international organisations with Welsh headquarters or significant corporate presence that it had committed to working closely with to create growth in their sector.
Share best practice
It said it regularly brought these businesses together via meetings and networking events in order to enable them to share best practice and ideas to boost the economy and create jobs.
“I am pleased to announce that we are further consolidating and building partnerships with these six new anchor companies,” said Welsh economy minister Edwina Hart. “They are all important employers in Wales and are vital to creating growth in their respective sectors.
‘Growing their jobs’
“I am focused on ensuring that we continue to support all anchor companies across Wales, growing their jobs and wealth to the benefit of the Welsh economy.”
Other businesses that have just been granted anchor status include JCB Wrexham, in the advanced materials and manufacturing sector, and Redrow in Ewloe, which operates in the construction sector.
The other three are: SPTS Technologies in Newport, Ortho Clinical Diagnostics in Felindre and Packaging Co-ordinators in Hay-on-Wye. They join a list of 38 existing anchor companies from a cross section of industries.
2 Sisters Food Group recently announced the creation of up to 180 jobs at its Cambuslang plant in Scotland. The Scottish government had earlier offered financial backing to safeguard jobs at the site in June.
