Bakery and cake manufacturer Finsbury Food Group has appointed Peter Baker as its new non-executive chairman, effective July 1 2014.

Baker will take over from Martin Lightbody, who will leave the firm after more seven years with the business.

He joined the firm in 2007 with the purchase of the Lightbody Group, where he had been md since 1995.

30 years’ experience

Baker will bring more than 30 years’ leadership experience within the global bakery and consumer packaged goods industry to the role. Most recently, he was md of Maple Leaf Bakery before his retirement in 2013.

He has also held roles at La Fornaia Bakeries, British Bakeries, Rank Hovis Mills and Jordans Cereals.

John Duffy, ceo of Finsbury Food Group, said: "I am very pleased to welcome Baker to the group as chairman. Finsbury Food is at a pivotal stage of its evolution and we have been shaping the expertise and capabilities of the board accordingly. Baker’s wealth of global industry and public limited company experience will be a considerable asset to the group.”

David Marshall will also step down as a non-executive director of the board.
