BNF to school children on provenance of food
In this exclusive video for FoodManufacture.co.uk, the BNF’s education programme manager Roy Ballam said children would learn about the origin of food, production and processing to help them understand more about the food on their plates.
“We are really hoping that children engage to learn more about where their food comes from,” he added. “So this year, we’ve made a really great effort to produce posters about food from the UK – because it’s really on your doorstep – as well as providing video, activity ideas and some teacher-time activities.”
Last year, a survey by the BNF revealed a widespread ignorance and misunderstanding of food origins and poor nutrition among school children.

Ballam also explained how the BNF would seek to educate on nutrition, and proper food storage and preparation during the week.
Healthy Eating Week runs from June 2–6 and will involve over 4,200 schools and almost 1.8M people across the UK.
Meanwhile, the Food Manufacture Group will stage a free, one-hour, online seminar Obesity and health: the big fat, sugar and salt debate.
The webinar aims to move the debate around obesity away from vested interest special pleading to a more secure footing based on independent interpretation of the scientific evidence.
