Heavy rain hikes the price of cinnamon
Heavy rainfall in Asia has badly affected the cinnamon crop and resulted in a global surge in its price.
The wholesale cost of cinnamon rose by 20% in February this year, compared with the same period last year, according to ingredients firm EHL Ingredients.
While an increase in rainfall in Indonesia has left growers unable to dry their crop quickly enough, an increase in demand for cinnamon from UK manufacturers, bakers, wholesalers and retailers has also boosted price, claimed Tasneem Backhouse, EHL sales director.
