Lambert becomes Burton’s Biscuits chairman

James Lambert has been appointed chairman of Burton’s Biscuits Company, while retaining his role as chairman of R&R Ice Cream.

Lambert stood down as ceo of R&R Ice Cream, following the completion of PAI Partners’ acquisition of the Yorkshire-based firm from Oaktree Capital Management last year.

He would carry out his chairman duties at both firms side-by-side and the new post would not affect his position at R&R, a spokesman for that firm told FoodManufacture.co.uk.

Lambert, who helped Ontario Teachers acquire Burton’s Biscuits last year for an undisclosed fee, said there were similar trends in the biscuit and ice cream sectors of investment, innovation and mergers and acquisitions, according to media reports.

‘Reorganisation of the industry’

“I believe it is better for those that work in the industry, those that consume the products and those that invest in the industry that there is a reorganisation of the industry in the UK and abroad,” he added.

The Burton’s Biscuit Company are reportedly eyeing up a bid for 2 Sisters Food Group’s Fox’s Biscuit brand.

Burton’s Biscuits currently owns the Maryland, Jammie Dodgers and Wagon Wheels brands.

The firm announced plans to invest £15M across its factories to help it grow its share of the snacking market.

Meanwhile, it also created a new team to develop its engineering strategy and committed £1M to the project.
