Seafood firms wanted for food manufacturing Oscars

The FMEAs celebrate the achievement of firms who have improved efficiency, introduced innovation and pioneered new working practices to benefit their businesses.

Specific awards celebrate seafood manufacturers, ambient, bakery, beverages, dairy, and meat and poulty producers. There are also categories for the Chilled Food Manufacturing Company of the Year and Fresh Produce Manufacturing Company of the Year. A full list of category and special awards appears at the end of this article.

Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group​

The seafood hero of last year’s FMEAs was the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group (SSMG), which won the coveted title Meat, Poultry and Seafood Manufacturing Company of the Year. The award judges – led by judging panel chairman Paul Wilkinson – praised SSMG’s business plan –doubling its production capacity over the past three years to meet growing demand.

The judges said: “The Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group was really quite amazing. For a small company to create that sort of business model, with that level of innovation and change was fantastic. The group introduced new added value and prepared products to encourage a whole new range of customers to eat shellfish.”​
