Delicate foodstuffs are handled with care

Pacepacker Services will show six different pick-and place systems, demonstrating the three main technologies - robotic (articulated arm, delta and Cartesian), electro/pneumatic Cartesian and bespoke styles - and will highlight innovative ways to handle a variety of unpackaged and packaged products.

As well as its own equipment, robot technology from Fanuc and Festo will be on show. From entry-level equipment to complex bespoke automation systems, visitors will have the chance to compare and contrast all three robot technologies side-by-side.

With 20 different end-effector tools to choose from in vacuum, gripper, magnet or clamshell style, visitors will see the robots handle delicate products with repeatable accuracy, at speeds of up to 180 packs a minute.

A Cartesian-style robot will be shown, which can accumulate two layers of three dip tubs into a shallow shelf-ready box; layer pick blueberry punnets into retail trays; load netted fruits into supermarket crates; plus place biscuits into blister packs and pack them into retailer trays.
