Feord told FoodManufacture.co.uk in this exclusive video that this year’s entrants for the Environmental initiative of the year were raising the standards for how businesses should operate.
“There has been a real stepped-up approach to the environmental entries,” she said. “We are moving away from some of the more traditional entries of zero landfill and traditional environmental approaches to more sustainability type approaches.
‘Step change’
“There was a real step change noticeable in this year’s entries.”
Many firms focussed on changing consumer recycling behaviour and not what changes they could make to production or materials, Feord added.

The FMEAs recognise the best in UK food and drink manufacturing. This year’s awards take place on November 20 at the Park Lane Hilton hotel.
