Eurilait has invested thousands of pounds in extra cutting and packing space and staff services at its Somerset dairy facility.

Located in the village of Evercreech, the 4,088m2 unit supplies retail, wholesale and food manufacturing customers across the UK and Ireland with cheese, butter, cream and crème fraiche.

Most of the produce comes from the 20 dairies owned by Eurilait’s dairy cooperative owners Laita and Eurial in France, in addition to speciality cheeses from across Europe. The site deals with brands such as Boursin, Frico and Galbani, as well as products including mozzarella cheese for pizzas.

Continued growth

The expansion project had been prompted by the continued growth of its business since 2001 and was handled by Total Interiors, according to Eurilait.

To create the additional space for the cutting and packing areas, a large section of pallet racking in the main warehouse was taken down and replaced with a 400m2 mezzanine floor.

Totally enclosed with white walling and flooring, the ground floor consists of a high care section, including a changing area for safe and hygienic exposed foods handling, and a low care packing section. A canteen, large staff room and toilets were also created on the mezzanine floor.

The investment has also entailed the creation of several new jobs, although Eurilait has not confirmed how many at this stage.

‘Expertise’

“We appointed Total Interiors because of their expertise in large refurbishment projects such as ours and we have been delighted with the outcome,” said Eurilait md Howard Newmarch.

“The job was on time and to budget and with the regular meetings we have been involved throughout the whole process.

“Their experience with similar projects meant that they knew what to expect and totally understood the importance of getting things done without ever over promising; and they were nice people to work with.”
