The facility, which is owned by the cheese processor the Kavli Group and employs 92 workers, has nearly doubled in size to 4,500m² following the investment and can now produce 1,000t of pâté each year.
Significant investments in new technology by the 30-year-old firm had been made, including steam cookers, vacuum packers and conveyer systems, the company said.
Significant investment
Several new production lines had also been installed to boost the efficiency and flow of the production process.
“They have been a key part of the upgrade and will improve the efficiency of the production process,” said group ceo Erik Volden.
“The investment was central to expanding our Scottish operation and I’d like to congratulate the team involved in the project on the first-rate facilities which will ensure that we have the capacity to meet ever-increasing demand for our products.”
It took 10 months to complete the investment programme, which also saw the installation of new sterilisation procedures, which were essential to the pâté-making process, he added.
Elaine McConnell, general manager at Castle MacLellan, said the upgrade had provided job security and employment opportunities for the future.
Manufacturing technology
“The new facility will help us to deliver on our continued vision of producing the highest quality artisan products using the finest Scottish ingredients and the latest in food manufacturing technology,” she added.
Castle MacLellan is owned by the cheese processor the Kavli Group and donates all of its profits to UK and overseas charities.
Plans to invest in and to expand the site were revealed by the firm in 2013.
At the time, McConnell said it represented a momentous step forward for the business, as well as demonstrating the confidence the Kavli Group had for the UK market, the site and its team.
