King, who left Sainsbury in July last year, hit the headlines last month when it emerged that he would be leading a mission to revive the fortunes of the Marussia Formula 1 team. The outfit was plunged into administration at the end of last year.
King, who is a longstanding Formula 1 fan, is expected to chair the team.
‘Advisor’
According to Sky News, 2 Sisters has confirmed King’s appointment “as an advisor”. It is not known when King will begin this latest role, but FoodManufacture.co.uk understands he has already begun advising 2 Sisters’ boss Ranjit Boparan in a part-time, temporary capacity.
King’s experience at Asda, Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury and leading grocery brands Mars and PepsiCo should help strengthen 2 Sisters’ existing relationship with the major supermarkets.
He joined Asda in 1994 and became md of its hypermarkets division, before moving to M&S in 2001 to manage its food division. He was named ceo of Sainsbury in 2004.
