Eblex reveals Best Steak competition results

The winners of 'England's Best Sirloin Steak', 'England's Best Innovative Steak' and 'England's Best Steak Pie' have been revealed at Eblex's Quality Standard Mark Excellence Awards at Underglobe in London.

Owen Taylor & Sons, from Derbyshire, picked up the Best Sirloin Steak award, Aubrey Allen of Warwickshire won the Best Innovative Steak title, and Dunkleys for Whitbread, which makes pies in Northamptonshire, was crowned the overall winner of England's Best Steak Pie competition.

As well as overall winner, there were category awards within the competitions for multiple retailers and their suppliers, independent retail butchers and farm shops, and catering butchers and manufacturers supplying the foodservice industry.

Mike Whittemore, head of trade marketing for Eblex, said: "We're thrilled with how successful the Quality Standard Mark Excellence Awards has been. We introduced the awards to stimulate product development, as well as to recognise and reward quality, innovation and excellence in beef and lamb production and we have seen some really fantastic products throughout the judging process.

"Competitions like this really help to drive quality and innovation throughout the beef and lamb industry, and it has been great to see just how many quality products are coming through. What was particularly encouraging was to see the number of added-value cuts in the Innovative Steak competition."

The awards took place in the dramatic surroundings of the Underglobe, a venue situated directly underneath Shakespeare's Globe theatre on London's South Bank. Attendees were treated to a three-course meal and Shakespearian displays of acting between dishes.
