Lidl in food safety recall last week

Discount retail Lidl was one of two firms forced to recall products on food safety fears last week.

Lidl recalled its Kania Crispy Fried Onions because the product included wheat, containing gluten, which was not mentioned on the label in English.

The recall, announced on Tuesday (June 23), specified Kania Crispy Fried Onions in 150g packets.

Lack of accurate labelling in English lead the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to conclude: “This makes the product a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.”

‘Possible health risk’

Products carrying all date codes were affected by the recall.

Customers who bought the product were advised to return it to their nearest Lidl store for a refund.

The second food safety recall of last week was Crunch Craving Yogurt Coated Raisins, which were recalled due to the presence of undeclared peanuts.

Clandeboye Agencies recalled the batch of its Crunch Craving Yogurt Coated Raisins with a ‘best before’ end date of October 31 2015, after some packs were found to contain peanut, which is not mentioned on the label.

This makes the product a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy to peanuts.
