Fish processor Seachill has expanded its Saucy Fish Co brand into more than 800 Belgium supermarkets as part of its international growth strategy.

The firm has released a special ‘Cod Loin with Beurre Blanc Sauce’ exclusively for the 808 Delhaize stores in Belgium.

The Grimsby-based seafood manufacturer will also stock its ‘Salmon Fillet with Thai Cuisine Sauce’ and ‘Sea Bass with Beurre Blanc Sauce’ at the stores nationwide.

The Saucy Fish Co’s international and business development manager Paul Macis said he was “very pleased” to be partnering with Delhaize to introduce the brand to Belgium.

‘International growth’

“International growth is a core part of Saucy’s strategy so we’re delighted to have this major listing secured within a leading European retailer,” he added.

This news follows a series of international expansion announcements as the UK-based brand, part of the Icelandic Seachill business, moved into the US and Australia last year.

Icelandic Gaudus’ marketing and product manager Kathleen Van Maele said: “Following the success of the brand’s other international launches; we’re very excited to be introducing The Saucy Fish Co to a new market in Belgium.

“Having developed a range of products tailored to Belgian tastes, we’re confident the products will be well received and look forward to seeing the brand take off over the coming months.”

In 2013, the firm launched in 82 Ica stores across Scandinavia.

Flemish Facebook

The brand has also launched a new Facebook page with content in both Flemish and French, and intend to launch a dual-language Belgian website next year, she added.

This will be supported with an appearance at a national Delhaize roadshow and a print advertisement in the supermarket’s consumer magazine.

Meanwhile, last week, the boss of Young’s Seafood Pete Ward told the World Seafood Congress industry must continue to champion best practice across sustainability, manufacturing, innovation and quality.

“This sector is important not just to our communities but also to the future of the world’s population,” Ward claimed.

“Protein demand will grow, as the global population increases and that responsibly sourced fish can play a key role in helping to ensure fewer people go hungry.”
