Pork Farms sends All Blacks good luck pork pie

Pork pie manufacturer Pork Farms has helped New Zealand reach the Rugby World Cup final by treating the All Blacks team to a special rugby ball shaped pie.

After hearing the players from New Zealand’s national rugby union squad were fans of the traditional British pork pie, Pork Farms sent a special layered version of their traditional pork pie in the shape of a rugby ball – complete the team’s silver ferns emblem.

Winning combination

New Zealand beat South Africa 20-18 at Twickenham on Saturday (October 24) to reach its fourth World Cup Final. They will now play Australia in the final of the tournament on Saturday October 31 at Twickenham.

Kim Burgess, head of markets for Pork Farms’ parent company Addo Food Group, sent the pie to the team ahead of its match with South Africa with a message of good luck.

“We are delighted that the All Blacks love them as much as we do so we had to send them Britain’s favourite pork pie from Pork Farms,” she said.

“Who wouldn’t be a fan of one of Britain’s best products – the pork pie?”

The pie

The pie consisted of layers of traditional pork pie meat, followed by a layer of chicken marinated in mustard and a layer of honey roasted ham.

It was then completed with a honey-flavoured jelly.

The pie was delivered to the team at their hotel base near Twickenham in a specially created box complete with artificial grass designed by the chefs at the Pork Farms bakery.

Pork Farms produces more than 40M pies a year and reaches 5M households. The firm was established in the early 1930s by Ken Parr in Nottingham.
