An Asda lorry crashed into a traffic light and overturned, strewing boxes of alcoholic and soft drinks across the road yesterday morning.

The dramatic crash led the 10-hour closure of the A60 in Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, and prompted a flurry of comments on social media.

Police were called to a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Leeming Lane and Peafield Lane at 10.55am yesterday (December 17), according to Nottinghamshire Police.

A60 closed until 8.50pm

The A60 remained closed until 8.50pm while the recovery took place but no injuries were reported, a police spokesman told FoodManufacture.co.uk.

An Asda spokeswoman said: “We're pleased to confirm nobody was injured and would like to thank the local authorities for their assistance.

“Both the vehicle and the stock have been recovered and are now being assessed.”

The Tactical Roads Policing Team (TRPT), which responded to the crash, posted a photograph of the lorry on Twitter and said: “TRPT in Mansfield dealing with Xmas cheer.”

‘It's terrible but the driver is ok’

Local resident Chloe Louise tweeted: “There’s an Asda Lorry tipped over near mine right on the bottom of Peafield lane! It’s terrible but the driver is ok.”

Twitter user Liam Mills commented: What a waste of alcohol in that Asda lorry overturn.”

Another Twitter user Nicholas Martin said: “Today is the day most alcohol is sold. Not in Forest Town, Notts, Asda. This is their lorry yesterday.”
