The system from transport management and telematics system provider Microlise will link up with the company’s existing planning and route optimisation tool, Ortec, to track delivery efficiency and enable performance improvements. The system will also help the company to engage its drivers to reduce fuel costs and cut down on atmospheric emissions.
Ronan Quigley, head of central operation at Aryzta, said that the company often had an intense transport schedule, with deliveries to its customers in the hospitality, education and retail sectors having specifically defined time windows, which was the reason behind trialling the system on 12 vehicles last year.
“We wanted to achieve significant improvements in route optimisation, tracking and driver performance,” said Quigley.
Aryzta has plans to roll out a full electronic proof of delivery (ePOD) package, which forms part of the Microlise product suite, in the future.
“As one of the largest frozen bakery companies in the world, Aryzta has a very ambitious target to be able to offer extremely accurate, fast and flexible delivery options for its customers,” said Nadeem Raza, Microlise chief executive officer. “We are pleased to have been able to demonstrate that our solutions can help them to achieve this, and look forward to working together on this and the next phase of the project.”
The system’s fleet performance capability will also help Aryzta to increase vehicle uptime and utilisation, while reducing wear and tear. The journey management component will enable the comparison of planned versus actual deliveries and reduce wasted mileage.
