Moy Park invests £8M in skills

Poultry processor Moy Park will invest £8M in a multi-year skills programme to support its growth across Europe.

The skills growth programme, which will be supported by a £1.4M grant from Invest Northern Ireland, covers a number of training and learning initiatives, Moy Park said.

These will include leadership and management development, technical competences and functional skills across the entire company workforce.

The investment will be “instrumental” in sustaining Moy Park’s continual transformation, growth and improvement, its human resources director for Europe Mike Mullan, claimed.

Major investments

“People are at the heart of Moy Park,” he said. “As a values-led company we continue to make major investments in our industry leading agriculture and processing facilities. It is essential that we champion and develop the capabilities of our people to take the business forward.

“As one of Europe’s leading food companies, we are committed to supporting our team members with outstanding training and development opportunities.”

Moy Park is Northern Ireland’s largest employer, with around 6,300 of its 12,000 employees based in the region.

Last month, the firm confirmed 19 people would lose their jobs as a result of a site closure.

In November, Moy Park pumped £10M into its Ashbourne hatchery and processing facilities, creating 100 new jobs.

The investment at Moy Park’s Ashbourne processing facility will enable the company to increase processing capacity to over 1M birds a week with the installation of a new cutting line, processing equipment and refrigeration chilling technology.

Company of the Year

Earlier that month, Mullan dedicated Moy Park’s Food Manufacture Excellence Award win for Company of the Year to the people working hard to adhere to its values.

Earlier in the evening, Moy Park had been awarded the Meat and poultry manufacturing company of the year sponsored by Dasic.
