An award winning thermoforming technology for polypropylene (PP) bottles used by the dairy sector has been further developed to allow manufacturers to make their bottles out of pre-printed plastic sheet materials.

Serac’s Agami process, which picked up the World Dairy Innovation Award 2015 in the manufacturing/process innovation category and has proved popular in the drinking yogurt market, now allows decorated bottles to be produced in one step using pre-printed PP reels.

The technical challenges of this new development were to define precisely the features required for the PP sheet as well as for the printing inks and to provide perfect positioning of the printed reel together with precise advance rate control.

For this particular application, Serac has equipped its Agami machines with sensors and sets of cameras that ensure fast initial machine setting with minimum waste. Machines systematically check that the PP sheet is at the right place for the next stroke during production.
