Radnor Hills raises its bottling line output

Drinks maker Radnor Hills has increased capacity from 175M to 300M bottles a year, thanks to the installation of a new bottling line that makes use of an energy efficient drive system.

The project is part of a planned expansion programme to meet growing demand for the firm’s products.

Radnor Hills makes a range of products in glass and plastic bottles, including still, sparkling and flavoured water, mixers, premium presses, children’s drinks and sports drinks.

The new bottling line, designed by factory automation engineer Newberry Systems, is capable of handling 22,000 bottles an hour. It includes a polyethylene terephthalate bottle blow-moulding machine, which takes advantage of SEW Eurodrive energy-efficient Movigear mechatronic drives. These can reduce energy consumption by up to 50%, or more, compared with standard drives.

“Movigear gave us the opportunity to significantly reduce energy consumption and, given our limited local power supply issues, we may have not been able to go ahead with the new line without it,” says Radnor Hills md William Watkins.
