Wyke Farms’s md: ‘All our markets look for environmental sustainability’

Wyke Farms’s customers worldwide demand high environmental standards, says the cheese maker’s md Richard Clothier in this exclusive video interview, after winning a Food Manufacture Excellence Award (FMEA).

“All our markets around the world are looking for environmental sustainability,” said Clothier in this video filmed after Wyke Farms won the Environmental initiative of the year in the food and drink manufacturing industry’s FMEA Oscars.

‘All the emerging markets’

“All the emerging markets where we are trading – in the US and Asia – are looking for people [to do business with] who care for the environment and natural resources.”

The west country dairy business impressed the independent FMEA judging panel – led by Paul Wilkinson, chair of National Skills Academy for Food and Drink – with its relentless dedication to promoting green and profitable business management. It’s 100% Green project went far beyond standard sustainability work and Wyke Farms had taken on the role of industry ambassador.

‘Environmental concerns’

Clothier told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “Environmental responsibility is something we all have to address. For me, it’s about using our experience and trying to impact what the rest of the sector does and issues we have in the farming sector with regard to environmental concerns.”

The Wyke Farms’s boss received the award from chief executive of the Institute of Food Science & Technology and FMEA judge Jon Poole at the awards ceremony hosted by star TV presenter Carol Smillie. Read more about Wyke Farms’s win here.

This year’s Venice-themed FMEAs award ceremony took place on the evening of Wednesday, November 2.
