Froneri scoops up top food manufacturing Oscar
The firm’s success was recognised in front of hundreds of food and drink manufacturing sector guests with the presentation of an FMEA trophy at an awards ceremony hosted by star TV presenter Carol Smillie.
Most recently with Nestlé
Multinational manufacturer R&R Ice Cream has achieved impressive growth in recent years, sparked by organic sales growth, acquisitions and strategic partnerships – most recently with Nestlé. The joint venture now trades as Froneri.
Last year the manufacturer reported £136M of profit on revenues of £720M. Total sales climbed by £44M compared with the previous year.
The independent FMEA judging panel, led by Paul Wilkinson, chair of National Skills Academy for Food and Drink, praised the progress made by the manufacturer’s Kelly’s of Cornwall brand in particular.
Kelly's sales have more than doubled since 2008, as the brand reached out to a new generation of consumer by highlighing its west country heritage and ingredients.
Highlighting its commitment to the local sourcing of milk and clotted cream, the judges noted Kelly’s investment in developing new flavours – such as lemon curd tart – and marketing.
‘Truly deserved to win’
One judge remarked: “New product development is so obviously core to R&R Ice Cream’s product offer, this was a well-rounded entry, showcasing a business that truly deserved to win this category.”
Froneri was in contention with two other finalists in this category: Freshasia Food and Wyke Farms.
This year’s Venice-themed FMEAs award ceremony took place on the evening of Wednesday, November 2.
