Food industry labour and regulations are top challenges

Securing the food and drink industry’s labour needs and responding to the challenges of new legislation are among the top challenges facing manufacturers, according to law firm DWF.

“Labour has got to be the starting point of any discussion about challenges facing the manufacturing sector,” said Dominic Watkins, partner with DWF, host sponsor of Food Manufcature Group’s Business Leaders’ Forum in London last month.

“The really key thing is to have the people to manufacture the products for them to be sold,” said Watkins.

‘The really key thing’

In a wide-ranging discussion, he also raised the possibility that Brexit might lead to more regulations affecting food and drink manufacturers, not less. Find out why by watching this video.

The Food Manufacture Group’s Business Leaders’ Forum was held at the London office of host sponsor law firm DWF. Other sponsors included: RSA Insurance Group, packaging specialist Charpak and analytical testing provider ALS Life Sciences UK.
