New PET bottle bases launched for 'extreme' production environments
A new range of bottle bases is claimed to ensure better performance of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles for carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) produced and distributed in extreme environmental conditions.

The Sidel StarLite Tropical base extends the StarLite bottle family developed by experts at bottling machine and mould supplier Sidel.

This latest addition to the range is designed to offer a flexible solution for CSDs, in all packaging sizes from 0.25 to 3 litres. It is also applicable to different standard levels of carbonation.

It is specifically designed for CSD bottles undergoing harsh conditions – for instance, when produced and distributed in the supply chain at very high temperatures or in environments that are particularly humid.

The end result is a PET bottle that is said to offer improved resistance in terms of stress cracking and creeping, as well as better stability throughout the supply chain. It also avoids material waste during production and storage, while not compromising on the safety standards of the beverage inside.

The StarLite Tropical base has an optimised geometry that reinforces all the zones that are more susceptible to stress cracking.
