Greencore appoints former US ambassador

Greencore has appointed a former US ambassador as non-executive director with immediate effect.

Kevin O’Malley served as US ambassador to Ireland until January this year. He joined Greencore’s board of directors on March 14.

O’Malley has spent 11 years as partner of law firm Greenfelder, Hemker and Gale. He founded the O’Malley Law Firm in 1989, which later merged with Greenfelder in 2003.

He served as president of the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts from 2011 to 2014. He is an investor in several casual dining restaurants in St Louis and Washington DC.

Commenting on the appointment, chairman Gary Kennedy said: “We are very pleased that Kevin is joining the board.

‘Support the group’s overall growth

“Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to support the group’s overall growth and in particular our vision to build a large scale, high performing convenience food business in North America.”

O’Malley’s appointment follows former ceo of Peacock Foods Tom Sampson joining Greencore’s board as non-executive director, bringing more than 30 years of experience to the role.

Sampson spent 28 years with Kraft Foods before his role at Peacock, including 10 years as president of Kraft North American Food Service.

He currently serves as president of the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center and on the board of directors of the Community Coffee Company.

‘Deep US operating knowledge’

Gary Kennedy said: “We are delighted to welcome Tom to the board. Tom brings a wealth of insight and relationships to the group along with a deep US operating knowledge which will be invaluable as we enter the next phase of the group’s development.”
