Infant-friendly whey can ‘better mimic’ breast milk

A highly heat-stable infant-grade demineralised whey powder featured at Gulfood 2017, which took place in Dubai in February and March.

The 70–90% demineralised whey is perfectly adapted to infant nutrition, allowing the protein ratio of the finished formula to be adjusted to better mimic breast milk, maker Epi Ingredients claimed.

The powder’s heat-stable properties allows for higher usage rates, the company added.

French dairy co-operative

The dry ingredients division of French dairy co-operative Laïta, Epi is investing more than €80M (£69.5M) in the construction of a drying tower dedicated to infant nutrition.

Set to open at the end of the year, the facility will also offer specific packaging capabilities such as directly filling ready-to-market 400g and 900g cans.

“Since the company’s complete overhaul in 2015, Epi’s focus has been to develop a portfolio of solutions designed to enhance the value of the raw milk gathered from our farms,” said Mathieu Lucot, marketing manager at Epi.
