Steam packaging film extends product shelf-life

A new packaging film for steamed food that is claimed not only to increase the shelf-life of fresh produce packed in it, but also to reduce the in-pack cooking time, has been introduced by KM Packaging Services.

The K Steam packaging film is designed for microwave steam cooking of fresh vegetables, fish and seafood.

It is said to enable pressure to build within trays during cooking, ensuring shorter cooking times combined with retention of excellent flavour, moisture, texture and nutritional content.

Seals are claimed to be easy to peal after cooking, even though the security of the seal is assured during distribution and retail.

K Steam is said to allow fresh vegetables to ‘breathe’ for longer through the processes of packaging, distribution and retail, ensuring longer shelf-life and increased freshness.

The new film can be supplied as peel seal or weld seal, with or without KM’s anti-fog capability – a range of treatments led by the company’s flagship KM Klarity+ product.
