2 Sisters red meat boss resigns after 22 years

2 Sisters’ red meat procurement director will leave the business after 22 years in charge, the company has revealed.

John Dracup will leave 2 Sisters Food Group to pursue his passion for farming, along with other opportunities. He will be replaced by Prys Morgan, who was appointed as head of livestock procurement in Wales last month.

2 Sisters’ red meat md Andrew Cracknell said: “John will be hugely missed. His passion and knowledge for livestock is second to none, and his recognition both internally and externally as one of the leaders in his field within the UK is truly deserved.”

Vast knowledge of livestock and market conditions

Dracup has a vast knowledge of livestock and market conditions, 2 Sisters said, earning him respect among his peers and the wider farming community. He represented 2 Sisters in a number of forums, including at select committee enquiries in parliament, while also externally representing the red meat industry as a whole.

Dracup said: “It has been a very difficult decision to tender my resignation after so many years in the business, but there are other passions I have outside the business and now is the right to take up fresh challenges.”

He will continue to work at 2 Sisters until January 2018. Until then, Dracup will work with Morgan to ensure a smooth handover.

Knowledge and expertise

Morgan re-joined 2 Sisters last month after a two-year break from the company. At the time, 2 Sisters said his knowledge and experience would benefit the business, and help to build collaborative relationship.

Speaking about Morgan’s appointment on June 21, Dracup said: “Prys understands the sector and brings a wealth of knowledge that will beef up our procurement and agricultural teams.

“We want to further strengthen our relationships with our valued producers and Prys has the skills and experience to drive this forward.”
