We invited visitors to the event at the National Exhibition Centre near Birmingham in September to answer the question: What does Food Manufacture mean to you?
The winner was promised the opportunity to take the wheel of a Formula One racing car, or one of two other high performance cars at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire.
The Wingland Foods manager put himself in pole position with the answer: “Food Manufacture helps understanding of new technologies and manufacturing market.”
‘An exhilarating one’
Denny told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “I have never been on a race day before. I have only ever taken my son to watch race meetings. So, this will be a whole new experience for me and an exhilarating one that I will always remember!”
Asked if it took long to think of the winning answer, he replied: “Not long at all. I can go straight to Food Manufacture magazine and see straight away news stories that help me understand what is current in the market.
‘News stories that help me understand’
“For example the story on subterranean salad producers in the October issue of the magazine [was particularly interesting] as Wingland Foods is in the salad market. Weather and seasonal conditions effect us greatly.”
Food Manufacture’s coverage of weighing machinery – both existing ranges and future developments – was praised by Denny.
So, did it take long to choose the Formula One racing car to be his vehicle of choice on his Driving Experience Day? “No: I will go for the single seater racing car, as you can drive an Aston Martin or Ferrari on normal roads and I want to make the most of the experience.”
