Ingredients for healthy snacks under the spotlight

Ingredients for healthy snacks will feature heavily at the forthcoming Food Ingredients Europe (FiE) and Natural Ingredients show, which takes place at Messe Frankfurt (November 28–30).

Glanbia Nutritionals (hall 8, stand J31) will showcase a ‘super seed’ granola bar, which combines quinoa, oat flakes and flaxseed for healthy, indulgent snacking.

Aimed at millennials and super seed fans, the bar contains gluten-free jumbo oat flakes made from the the company’s OatPure, as well as quinoa flakes and almonds.

It provides a slow release of carbohydrates that can be enjoyed between meals for a natural health boost, Glanbia says.

In addition, the company will be showing how health and indulgence can come together to form a protein bar that carries all the texture of a confectionery product.

Those with active lifestyles

With sweetness from a caramel layer and chocolate topping and a soft chewiness, Glanbia claims the bar prototype holds wide appeal for those with active lifestyles looking to increase their protein intake without sacrificing taste.

Containing BarPro291, BarFlex and Solmiko MPC, and incorporating 20g of protein per 60g serving, the bar has the added benefit of an extended shelf-life for maximum consumer enjoyment.

Glanbia will also be highlighting its formulations for liquid-based products.

Targeting active women, the company’s high-protein chai latte drink contains up to 10g of ProTherma hydrolysed whey protein.

The protein is said to offer a number of nutritional and beauty benefits, including muscle maintenance, skin, nail and hair health, as well as antioxidative cell protection.

A team will be on-hand to explain how the ingredient can withstand brewing temperature, to deliver a healthy, hot beverage solution that appeals to females with urban and active lifestyles, and a taste for international flavours.

Offering high solubility

Made with milk, Glanbia says the drink is an example of how ProTherma provides high solubility – even at a fast brew mode.

The functional and nutritional benefits of ProTherma will also be demonstrated in a high-protein vegetarian soup. Glanbia says that ProTherma, together with Micelle XL – a milk protein that improves amino acid absorption – can contribute up to 8g of protein in the instant soup.

The addition of 3g of quinoa seeds and an energising vitamin premix provides extra appeal to health conscious, active consumers, who want an extra hit of protein on-the-go, it adds.

“The trend for millennial snacks shows no sign of slowing down, and we are proud to present the very best of our solutions, offering health, functionality and great taste together,” says Dagmar Ortlepp, marketing manager at Glanbia Nutritionals.

“In addition, this year we are showcasing our new branding for the first time in Europe, and we are excited to share why tenacity is a value we hold close – to bring better nutrition to people everywhere.”
