Seafood and vegetarian firm invests to meet export demand

Newton Abbott-based seafood and vegetarian manufacturer Paramount is planning further investment next year to meet growing global demand for its foodservice products.

Paramount is adding extra capacity on its frying line to raise production and improve product quality. It also planned to expand its production capability to support new product launches.

Over the past year, the company has invested more than £500,000 in new machinery to increase capacity. Key investments have included extra freezing kit and extra ambient, chilled and frozen storage space, plus weighing and bagging equipment.

Provided greater capacity

The energy-efficient refrigeration kit installed provided greater capacity but used less energy per tonne of food.

As the company has grown, its product range has also increased. As well as its seafood and vegetarian ranges, the company now produces vegan and gluten-free products.

This would help pave the way for expansion in Australia, Asia, Europe and potentially the US and Canada, it claimed.

‘Our impact on the environment’

“It is vital we continue to invest in our capability and facilities, but while doing so be mindful of our impact on the environment and the trusted and loyal employees that work for us,” said md Jon Phillips.

“In our 30th year, the founding principles remain as true today as they did in 1988, but the business of today is modern and relevant to the markets we serve now and into the future.”

Meanwhile, an export conference co-hosted by the Food Manufacture Group is to take place on February 8 2018 at Ardencote Manor, Warwickshire. Today (December 18), is the last chance to buy early bird tickets. Visit the Food Xport Conference website for more information.
