Loss in weight feeder for reliable recipe dosing

To meet increasing demand for accurate and reliable recipe dosing in the food processing lines, Dutch screw conveying equipment designer and supplier Van Beek has partnered with weighing specialist Penko to develop a loss in weight (LIW) feeder system.

The LIW feeder is an advanced dosing screw that can be used in processes that require a set amount of additives to be accurately added in the correct ratio and as gradually as possible.

The feeder consists of a screw conveyor on three accurate Penko weighers that monitor the quantity of product in the screw. By monitoring the weight decrease and by linking this data to the time, the actual material flow is shown.

Based on the difference between the actual and required material flow, the software calculates whether to adjust, if necessary, the rotation speed of the screw, so that it delivers precisely the required weight per hour.

It is also possible to adjust the release rate of the screw for product flow, via master to slave controls, so that the final product ratios always remain the same.
