Prewett’s launches gluten-free cookies
The cookies are designed as a lunchtime snack or an on-the-go treat and the company claimed they provided a sweet alternative to Prewett’s Mini’s cheese biscuit, which it launched in Sainsbury’s stores in January.
Chunky Choc Chip Cookies are available as a 140g five pack and are being sold initially in Asda stores across the UK, with more stockists set to follow later this year. The product retails at £2.00.
David Wood, business improvement director at Prewett's owner Northumbrian Fine Foods said: “These great-tasting mini choc chip cookies are ideal for gluten free consumers looking for a delicious and convenient snack.”
Founded by Frederick Shaw in 1936 as Shaw Biscuits, Prewett's operates from a 2,787m2 factory and employs more than 200 staff.
The past month has seen a number of new product launches by food and drink manufacturers.
Crisp maker Walkers is celebrating its 70th birthday with six limited-edition flavours inspired by popular dishes over different decades.
Meanwhile, Orange Smarties are set to reappear in packs filled with the sweets this spring, following the success of Giant Tubes of the confection last autumn.
