Fraserburgh fish processing boost after Young’s Seafood cuts
The Scottish Seaford Centre of Excellence would raise the profile of Fraserburgh, which saw hundreds of jobs lost at Young’s Seafood processing factory in 2015, by turning it into a fishing and processing hub.
Seafood Scotland, Scottish Seafood Association and Opportunity North East are among the organisations involved in the bid to create the centre, according to the report. The proposal was due to be heard by councillors on the Banff and Buchan Area Committee on 16 April.
Range of partners
“The project group comprises a wide range of partners committed to progressing the Scottish Seafood Centre of Excellence Working Group vision, from both private and public sectors,” said an Aberdeenshire Council spokesman.
SAC Consulting has prepared a business case on the proposed facility, and findings are expected to be published at a later date.
Last month, food processing company Bhagat Holdings announced it would create 120 jobs in Annan following its purchase of the former Pinneys site.
Coating operations
At the time Keshav Bhagat, managing director at Bhaghat Holdings, said: “We’re thrilled with the site in Annan as it’s ideal for our ambitious breadcrumb, dry mixes, and fish and chicken coating operations.
“We know there’s a highly skilled local workforce that can help us grow our business and that’s one of the reasons we chose to locate in Scotland.”
