Matthew Mills, who is the son of the original founder of the business, has been appointed in the role, re-joining the company after a recent stint working in New York.
Mills has been in the coffee business for 15 years and has worked across three continents.
Sourcing strategies
His responsibilities will include coffee sourcing strategies and management of Masteroast’s commercial interests, including a recently acquired part-ownership of a coffee mill and exporting company in Colombia.
“I am delighted to have someone of Matthew’s expertise and experience within the company,” said managing director Andy Fawkes.
“His appointment underlines our long-term commitment to continuing what we do as a strong, independent player in the UK and European markets.”
The firm has recently been spearheading market developments in sustainable coffee products, including biodegradable coffee bags and recyclable aluminium capsules. It has pledged to convert at least 70% of its customer packaging on to more sustainable platforms over the next two years.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Bristol-based coffee ingredients manufacturer Beyond the Bean secured a £50,000 deal to export its products to the Middle East.
