The announcement is the latest recruitment drive by the company best-known for poultry processing, following the creation of 100 new jobs at its processing plant in Thetford, Norfolk earlier this month.
The introduction of the roles coincide with an anticipated seasonal uplift for the manufacturer and cover a number of disciplines spread across several departments. These range from operatives, hopper operatives, machine minders, quality assessors, senior operatives, material controllers, hygiene operatives, plant operatives and an industrial chef.
Grow with demand
Head of human resources for the Rogerstone plant said: “We have a large number of new roles that have come about as our business continues to grow with consumer demand.
“Following the height of the pandemic where demand fluctuated, customer orders have now stabilised and as we enter the autumn and winter season, demand for our products will continue to rise. We therefore seek people to produce our high quality meals that our customers love.”
Site director Steve Bowling added that the past six weeks had seen volume grow by circa 30%, with box meals sales doubling. That in turn had generated a rapid increase in production, leading to the need to create the additional jobs, the company claimed.
Welsh lockdown
Recruitment at 2 Sisters also comes as the Government announces new lockdown rules across Wales to help stem the spread of COVID-19 cases in the region. Two-thirds of the country will be under the restrictions from 6pm today (September 28), with Cardiff and Swansea already under lockdown since Sunday night.
The rules prohibit travel outside of council boundaries other than for work, education or medical emergencies. Businesses in Wales affected by the coronavirus are to be offered up to £140m in grants, according to Ken Skates, Welsh government minister for economy and transport.
Meanwhile, chancellor of the exchequer Rishi Sunak has announced a new job support scheme and extended the coronavirus loan scheme for businesses as part of his Winter Economy Plan.
