Food manufacturers reveal a host of launches in time for Christmas

An array of Christmas treats leads this month’s gallery of new product development from food and drink manufacturers.

Fatherson Bakery has added five new products to its Christmas range, while the Great British Porridge Co has released a new flavour in time for the festive season.

Also featured are new launches from biscuit maker Pladis, bespoke baker Doughnut Time and pasty firm Ginsters.

Meanwhile, Vegan manufacturer Soulful Food has introduced PlantBox, a range of plant-based meals into Whole Foods Market outlets and is also selling them direct to consumers online.

Festive launches from Fatherson Bakery

Fatherson Bakery has added five new festive products to its line in the run up to Christmas.

Iced & Marzipan Topped Rich Fruit Cake, Dundee Cake, Nine Mini Cupcake Platter, Crumble Topped Port & Cranberry Pies and Mincemeat Bakewell Tarts will be joining the baker’s Christmas range.

Made in small batches, the Christmas range features fresh ingredients in a bid to replicate the feel of home-baked products. All products from Fatherson are handmade and hand-decorated and all the mince pie and cupcake platter packaging are made from 100% recyclable materials. 

The five new products – along with the rest of the Christmas range – are available across the UK through the Co-op, Budgens, Spar, Londis and other independent retailers.

New porridge flavour in time for Christmas

The Great British Porridge Co has launched a new limited edition porridge in time for the festive season.

Apple & Cinnamon instant porridge joins the five other flavours in company’s range, which includes Classic Chocolate, Red Berry & Pumpkin Seed, Strawberry & Peanut Butter, Caffe Latte and Blueberry & Banana.

The new instant porridge is 100% natural, gluten free, dairy free and contains no added sugar.

Commenting on the launch, founder Jacqeline Barleycorn said: “We have been desperate to launch a Christmas flavour and feel we have created something that not only tastes amazing, but is so evocative of Christmas.

“Cinnamon is a lovely festive flavour and coupled with the sweetness of the apples, it really is a delicious combination that we know our customers will love.”

Pladis reveals Flipz seasonal sharing packs

Biscuit manufacturer Pladis is ringing in Christmas with the launch of festive variants of its Flipz chocolate covered pretzels.

Along with revamped packaging, packs now include Christmas themed shaped pretzels and are slightly larger at 160g (from 100g). The new seasonal varieties are available in in Milk Chocolate and White Fudge.

Jonathan Bull, head of McVitie’s Commercial & Seasonal Brands at Pladis UK and Ireland, said: “Christmas provides us with an opportunity to boost sales across all sharing formats as sharing snacks are so instrumental to the season.

“We expect this to ring particularly true this year, as more households spend time at home over the festive period. We’ve increased the size of our classic Flipz bags, plus added a ‘More to Share’ flash to drive visibility and strengthen appeal among these shoppers.”

Doughnut Time releases Christmas mash-up

Doughnut Time have partnered with ethically sourced, oil and palm-free chocolate brand Doisy & Dam to produce a gingerbread man inspired doughnut.

The product is entirely void of animal products, making it the very first Vegan Gingerbread Doughman to hit the UK market, the company claimed.

The Doughman 6-Pack will be available to order online; followed by a Gingerbread Doughman Do-It-Yourself Home Kit.

Also included in the Christmas Collection is a 6-Pack featuring festive flavours; toffee shortbread, Terry’s Chocolate Orange, Malteser Reindeer and a snowflake doughnut inspired by Disney movie Frozen.

Percy Pig returns to cake isle

Cake maker Bright Blue Foods (BBF) has collaborated with Marks & Spencer (M&S) to rollout a new range of baked goods, including a sponge cake based on the retailers Percy Pig line of confectionery.

The Percy Pig sponge roll is a pink sponge filled with pink Percy Pig flavour buttercream and fruity jelly pieces, rolled in pink raspberry flavour sugar.

BBF chief executive Jonathan Lill said: “It’s always a pleasure working alongside M&S, especially at this time of year when consumers are increasingly looking for indulgent treats to celebrate Christmas.

“The Percy Pig brand is loved by the nation and is renowned for being delicious, so to integrate this same great taste into another format for consumers to enjoy has been fantastic.”

Ginsters expands meat-free range

Pastries and pasties brand Ginsters has expanded its range of meat-free products with the launch of the Vegan Mexican Chilli Empanada.

The new savoury pastry combines marinated Pulled Oats with piquanté pepper and ancho chillies in a smoky Mexican style sauce. The filling is then wrapped in light pastry and finished with a smoked paprika topping.

A meat alternative, Pulled Oats® is made from a high protein mix of oats, pea and faba bean by Helsinki-based Gold&Green Foods. Ginsters dubbed the additive free ingredient the next UK food trend.

Kieran Hemsworth, Ginsters’ Managing Director, said: “The debut of Pulled Oats into UK savoury pastry, alongside contemporary flavours in this range, will expand our core snacking and vegan offering – two increasingly popular trends that will continue to boom.
