The Agricultural Academy is led by a team of managers and mentors, with combined input from external providers. It is designed to bolster participants’ understanding of the wider agri-food industry through workshop-based seminars.
Participants are also provided with management development opportunities, with a focus on innovation and research, bird performance and ‘technical knowledge’ programmes.
Knowledge and practical skills
Director of agriculture David Gibson said the Academy would enhance the knowledge and practical skills of Moy Park’s agri colleagues and offer them long term support to grow and progress within the business. In the process, it would deliver real change and improved performance for the company.
“The Academy exposes people to the diversity of growing chicken, what role science and technology plays and also what part we as individuals can play through enhanced management and best practices on the farm,” Gibson added.
“Each component of this blended learning programme will ultimately underpin our overarching aim of welfare as a condition.”
The Agriculture Academy is the latest launch in Moy Park’s series of academies, which already cover commercial, technical, finance and human resources functions. The Agriculture Academy specifically combines Moy Park’s ‘Poultry Expertise’ and ‘Technical Knowledge’ programmes.
Online learning
Moy Park also offers an Online Academy through an e-learning platform, which is designed to make the developments and delivery of employee training programmes simple and constructive.
This month Moy Park also announced two senior appointments to bolster its management team.
Earlier this year, food industry representatives welcomed Government proposals for more employer involvement in developing vital skills but claimed that they did not address all the sector’s concerns.
Proposals set out by the Government’s Skills for Jobs White Paper included measures to simplify and reform funding and accountability for learning providers and give employers greater influence in the development of skills.
