Gordon & MacPhail appoints new distillery manager
Family-owned whisky producer Gordon & MacPhail has appointed Mhairi Winters as manager for its Cairn Distillery.

Formerly team leader for William Grant & Sons Balvenie and Kininvie distilleries, Winters has spent more than 20 years in the Scotch whisky industry across a number of senior technical and production roles.

Commenting on her appointment, Winters said: “I feel incredibly lucky to be part of the team bringing The Cairn Distillery to life. It’s not every day that a brand-new Distillery of this scale is built and it was an opportunity I couldn’t let pass me by.

Passion for Scotch

“I’m extremely passionate about our industry and our products. I am excited to begin commissioning and start creating our new spirit.”

Gordon & MacPhail announced plans to open the Cairn Distillery in Craggan, Speyside in May 2018. It will be the second distillery for the business and is planned to open later this year.

Ewen Mackintosh, managing director at Gordon & MacPhail, added: “We have been delighted by the incredibly positive welcome we’ve had locally. Now we have a local team in place we are keen to continue the process of building long-term relationships with the community and local businesses.”

Further appointment

The Scotch whisky distiller has also appointed Andy Kitchin as visitor experience manager for the new site.

Mackintosh added: “Andy in particular will be focusing very much on getting to know people in the local area while Mhairi focuses on the production of the Cairn spirit. I’m sure they will enjoy the same warm welcome we have already experienced.”

Meanwhile, Ivan Siqueira, former head of Brazilian meat group Seara Foods, has been appointed president of pork processor Pilgrim’s UK.

Siqueira boasts more than 29 years’ experience within the pork and poultry industries, having most recently served as executive director for Brazilian producer Seara Foods. The last three year saw a significant boost in sales under his leadership.
