Haribo UK has announced that it will construct a new warehouse at its production site in Castleford.

The West Yorkshire-based sweets manufacturer confirmed the news after receiving planning approval for a purpose-built warehouse, which the company expects to be operational by 2025.

Haribo submitted the application to Wakefield Council last year, with the documents detailing changes to a previously approved scheme at its Castleford site. In a post on LinkedIn, the firm said that the new facility would help it meet the growing demand for its products and ”deliver more moments of childlike happiness to consumers across the country”.

According to the application, the new warehouse will also help the protect the jobs of its around 680 members of staff. It added: “Haribo UK has played an important role in the local area for half a century, and this application demonstrates their commitment to both Wakefield, and Yorkshire as a centre of excellence for food manufacturing."

Following the approval of the application, Haribo UK and Ireland managing director Jon Hughes commented: "Following another successful year, we're pleased to have recently received planning approval for a new, purpose-built warehouse at our Castleford site. We expect to break ground and begin construction soon and are delighted to have appointed local Yorkshire construction firm Caddick Construction Limited to support the build.

“For 50 years, we've been part of Yorkshire's sweet-making tradition – the new warehouse will mean that we can create more moments of childlike happiness through our delicious treats for our consumers across the UK."
