Salmonella contamination causes product recall
The bacteria was found in certain batches of ‘Al’Fez Natural Tahini’ which are sold in 160g jars.
The recall applies to any jar with a batch code of 3355, 4004, 4023, 4024, 4039 or 4040, all of which have a best before date between June and August 2025.
Symptoms caused by ingesting Salmonella can include a fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
As part of the recall, AB World Foods has issued point of sale notices that will be displayed in stores where the product is sold. Customers that bought the product have been told not to consume it and return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
The notice added that no other Al’Fez branded products have been impacted.
Undeclared allergens
Elsewhere, Marks & Spencer has recalled a batch of its own brand ‘Chocolate Cornflake Mini Bites’ because its label does not declare several allergens present in the product..
The bites contain hazelnuts (nuts), oats (gluten) and wheat (gluten), but due to an error this has not been signposted on the packaging.
The recall applies to 180g packs with a best before date of 6 August 2024.
Marks & Spencer has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice which explains why the product is being recalled and tells customers what to do if they have bought the product.
“Please do not consume this product if you have an allergy or intolerance to hazelnut, oats or wheatflour,” the notice reads.
“If you wish to exchange the product, you can return it to your nearest store where a full refund will be given. Only the displayed date codes are impacted. No other M&S products are affected. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”
