Supermarket chain Aldi is on the hunt for an official beer taster to review its Autumn range of beers.

The successful applicant will receive a selection of beers to taste and review, with their feedback set to guide and inform Aldi as it makes decisions about its 2025 range.

The role is designed for a taster with a passion for beers ranging from IPAs and ciders to craft beers.

In order to apply, those interested should send an email explaining why they think they should be chosen for the role and outlining what their favourite Aldi beer is and why. Applications are set to close on 23 August 2024 and more information about the process can be found on the retailer’s website.

Aldi announced the similar position of crisp taster in June 2024, where the successful applicant would be tasked with tasting all new varieties before they hit the shelves.

Commenting on the launch of the new role, managing director of buying at Aldi UK Julie Ashfield said: “Our beer range is very popular with shoppers, so it is important that we continue to excite our loyal fan base with an innovative offering.

“That’s why we’re returning our Official Beer Taster competition for a third year. It allows us to continue developing our products with quirky and unusual flavour profiles, while offering quality products at unbeatable prices. Best of luck to all those who enter!”

Elsewhere, Aldi has announced plans to open four new stores in London by the end of 2024.

Locations in Leytonstone and Beckton will go live in the next couple of months, while plans are in place to open stores in Holloway Road and Muswell Hill.

The openings will see the supermarket create more than 150 new jobs, with even more stores set to open in London during 2025.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “There are still thousands of shoppers in the capital that don’t yet have access to an Aldi nearby and, as a result, too many people have to make do with big prices at the big supermarkets.”

In other news, Newlat has completed the £700m acquisition of Princes from Mitsubishi Corporation.
