Tesco has announced the recall of a plant-based burger product because it may pose a potential burn risk to consumers.

The supermarket chain issued a statement announcing that all batches of ‘Tesco Plant Chef 2 Meat-Free Burgers with Melting Middle’ had been recalled because the centre of the burgers maintains a high temperature once cooked.

The burgers are sold in 240g packs of two, with all best before dates implicated in the recall.

Described as a precautionary measure, Tesco said that the high temperature represented a burn risk.

Anyone that has bought the product has been advised not to eat it and instead to return it to any Tesco store for a full refund (no receipt required).

On recall notices that are now being displayed in stores, Tesco advised customers to get in touch if they have any questions. Consumers can also visit the Food Standards Agency website for more information.

According to the latest Kantar data, Tesco holds a 27.6% share of the grocery market in Britain making it the country's largest supermarket retailer ahead of Sainsbury’s and Asda respectively.
