Food Manufacture rounds up the latest job vacancies in the food and drink manufacturing industry, including several management roles across operations, hygiene and technical.

Bakkavor seeks factory technical manager

Fresh prepared meals manufacturer Bakkavor is on the hunt for a factory technical manager to join the team at its Boston Meals site in Old Leake, Boston.

Driving the delivery of technical standards across the site’s operations will be the main focus of the role, ensuring that the correct standards are understood by all relevant persons and effectively challenged, by way of audit.

The successful candidate will be accountable for developing an ‘audit ready’ culture in the factory, provide practical support and drive to promote a quality assurance culture in the business and ensure relevant standards – HACCP-based as appropriate – are communicated, understood and applied to meet food safety, quality and customer specified requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a food related degree and significant experience within a chilled food environment, as well as a good understanding of high care, high risk, RTE, RtRH and RTC disciplines.

You will need to display effective communication skills and the ability to ‘frame’ situations and incidents to a wide range of stakeholders to gain their understanding and commitment. Individuals hoping to secure this role need to have solid leadership skills and experience managing food safety risks.

The job offers a competitive salary on a permanent contract working 37.5 hours a week. The successful applicant can also expert a competitive reward package, including life assurance (2.5 times salary), a staff shop and private medical insurance.

New hygiene manager role at GrowUp Farms

An opening for a new hygiene manager role has opened at sustainably-powered vertical farm GrowUp.

Kent-based GrowUp Farms is looking for an experienced food hygiene professional to lead and manage the hygiene team, responsible for the implementation of all the necessary guidelines.

The new recruit will plan and implement deep cleaning and overhead cleaning schedules and manage the hygiene team to ensure correct levels of staffing and cleaning.

You will also be responsible for compliance audits and inspections of internal hygiene standards and documentation, as well as COSHH management and associated training across all functions.

Other responsibilities include ensuring the prevention of accidents from hygiene function related causes, as well as accountability for the hygiene department budgets and all hygiene related KPI’s across all shifts.

Operations manager role open at Herbtender

Natural supplements manufacturer Herbtender is on the lookout for a new operations manager to lead its supply chain operations at its Cambridge site.

As Herbtender’s new operations manager, you will have accountability for the efficient management and development of its supply chain and operations, ensuring cost effective progressive solutions delivering high quality experiences to customers and suppliers.

You will be responsible for the selection and management of manufacturing partners, packaging suppliers and ingredient suppliers to agreed standards and costs as you lead on new product development projects from conception to commercialisation.

This is a permanent position with a salary of £50,000-£55,000 operating on a hybrid basis from the manufacturer’s Cambridge site.

The successful applicant will also hold accountability for 3PL and direct to consumer warehousing and logistics, as well as stock management and purchasing though the newly implemented management system, ‘Unleashed’.

Applicants are required to have five years of proven experience within supply chain management in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, as well as experience in managing third party logistics relationships. Other requirements include project management and start-up experience.

You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and data management skills, have a positive, problem-solving attitude and a passion for wellness and natural wats to manage health.

NPD technologist opening at Florette

Florette UK & Ireland has opened applications for a new NPD technologist at its Lichfield, Staffordshire site.

The fresh prepared salads company has an opening for a ‘real foodie’ to join the team to help develop new and modified products for the Florette brand and own-label customers.

Main responsibilities include: organising trials, shelf life, samples, and industrial validations for all Florette projects; liaising with all factory departments for the development of new products from feasibility to launch; and managing new product development for the Florette brand following briefs from the marketing department.

Candidates will also have the opportunity to research new ideas and trends while providing relevant departments with information to create quality and technical documents regarding launch of products in the factory.

The manufacturer is seeking someone what has ideally been educated to degree level in a food science/technology or related discipline with a minimum of two years’ experience working within an NPD department.

Candidates must have experience with the development of chilled/short shelf-life products, shelf-life analysis, product sampling, factory trials and product costings. They must also have played a leading role in new product development projects and have good IT and communication skills.

Continuous improvement manager needed at Apetito

Apetito – supplier of ready meals to care homes and hospitals across the UK – is looking for a continuous improvement manager for its Wiltshire, Trowbridge site.

The Continuous Improvement Manager will actively train and develop teams to ensure they have the appropriate skills and tools to implement improvements and deliver a positive step change in manufacturing performance, ensuring that the departments run to their maximum efficiency with right first-time product quality and minimum waste.

This role will be quite hands on as you will need to lead, influence, coach, encourage and support a varied team both in experience and competency to generate the right first-time quality products, safely and efficiently.

Applicants can expect a a good level of autonomy and thus this role is for an experienced, self-starter who can create their own strategic direction, through liaison with the manufacturing management team.

The manufacturer is offering a competitive salary on a permanent contract, though a degree of flexibility will be required as the factory runs seven days a week, almost 365 days a year.

To qualify for the role, applicants will need significant experience in applying LEAN methodology in a FMCG production environment, as well as significant experience and thorough working knowledge of manufacturing FMCG environments – prioritising safety and quality.

You will also need to show experience of influencing and developing large diverse teams – delivering a right first-time ethos – and demonstrable experience of working in a change environment. Experience of taking a leadership role within a management team and being able to demonstrate key achievements and where they have personally added value is also desirable.
