Both Lidl and Iceland have recalled own brand products because allergens present were not listed on the labels.

In Northern Ireland, Lidl has recalled its ‘Deluxe Chicken & Vegetable Soup’ which was incorrectly labelled as ‘Sweet Potato & Chicken Soup’, although with the correct lid.

The chicken and vegetable soup contains gluten in the shape of barley and wheat, but due to the packaging error this was not communicated to customers.

This means that the product is a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to barley, wheat or gluten.

Sold in 400g packs, the soup has a use by date of 29 September 2024.

Lidl NI has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

Meanwhile, the retailer has issued a recall notice to its customers explaining the issue and advising consumers with a gluten allergy not to consume the product.

Anyone that has bought the product can return it to any Lidl store for a refund (with or without a receipt) or contact Lidl NI.

“Lidl wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the recall notice reads.

Elsewhere, Iceland Foods has recalled its ‘Iceland 2 Vegetable Balti Bakes’ product because the label does not mention that it may contain milk.

As a result, the product poses a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

Sold in a 280g pack, the vegetable bakes have a best before date of 9 July 2026.

Iceland Foods has already contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, in addition to issuing a recall notice in stores.

The notice advises anyone that has bought the product not to eat it and return it to an Iceland store.

According to the recall notice, no other products or date codes have been affected.
