Gluten-free manufacturer Genius Foods has appointed Stephen Hann as its new chief executive, effective from January next year.

Hann is to replace Adam Smart, who steps down from the board of directors following the successful completion of the optimisation of the manufacturer’s operations and product portfolio.

Smart joined the manufacturer from PepsiCo in May 2023 where he served as general manager for its Ireland business since September 2017. Before that, he held several senior commercial and supply chain roles with Diageo in the UK and across UK.

Smart’s leadership

Under Smart’s leadership, Genius took important steps to stabilise the company’s operations, with a particular focus on developing the sweet treats and rolls category.

Commenting on his time in the role, Smart said: “It has been a rewarding challenge to lead Genius Foods through this period of reorganisation. With the strong foundations we have established, I am confident that Genius Foods will continue to thrive under Stephen Hann’s leadership.”

Hann joins Genius from ‘wrapper-free’ snack and protein bar brand One Good Thing, where he served as CEO – a role that he was promoted to in March this year from his role as chief commercial officer.

Industry experience

He brings more than 20 years of experience within the fast-moving consumer goods industry, having held senior positions at snack box Graze (managing director), Kraft Heinz (national account controller for several brands), and Danone (national account director).

“I’m thrilled to be joining Genius Foods at such a pivotal time,” said Hann. “This is a company with incredible growth potential, and I’m eager to build on the strong foundation laid by Adam, driving the business toward new heights in operational efficiency and market expansion.”

In other appointment news, circular economy charity the Ellen McArthur Foundation and international ingredients manufacturer Beneo have both announced senior appointments this month.

The Ellen McArthur Foundation has appointed Jonquil Hackenberg as its new chief executive to replace CEO Andrew Molet, who depart after 10 years in the role. Meanwhile, functional ingredients manufacturer Beneo has announced the appointment of Imen Ouerdiane as sales director EMEA.
