The managing director of Prima Bakeries Group, Mark Norton, has passed away at the age of 60.

Norton died following a brief illness and leaves behind his wife Lynne and two children Emma and Sam.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Mark Norton, managing director of Prima Bakeries Group, following a brief illness,” the group said in a statement.

“Mark was a devoted husband to Lynne and a proud father to Emma and Sam, as well as a well-respected figure in the business community of Cornwall and beyond. He will be missed by all who knew him.”

Norton served as the managing director of Prima Bakeries Group for more than 14 years, a business that incorporates Furniss of Cornwall, Cornish Premier Pasties and Prima Bakeries.

Prior to 2010, he was the managing director of Cornish Premier Pasties.

Under Norton’s leadership the group became an employee-owned business at the start of 2024, with an employee ownership trust forming a legal structure that encompasses more than 150 employees.

“Through Mark’s commitment to a long-term succession plan, business across the employee-owned group will continue under the existing dedicated management team,” the statement read.

“Details of a memorial for Mark will be released at a later date.”
