Ingredients firm MycoTechnology has hired Jordi Ferre as its new chief executive officer.

Ferre will take up the role from 2 January 2025, succeeding interim CEO Ranjan Patnaik who will return focus to his primary position as chief technology officer.

With more than 30 years of managerial experience gained across the food and ingredients industry, Ferre currently serves as head of the global food division at HealthTech Bioactives, a global ingredient specialist that produces solutions for active pharmaceutical ingredients, taste modulation, functional health and animal nutrition.

Prior to that, he served as the CEO of AgroFresh and as COO at PureCircle.

“Based on its impressive technological developments to date and continuous innovation, MycoTechnology is ready to enter its next chapter of growth, bringing breakthrough natural solutions with a lasting impact,” Ferre said.

“I am excited for the opportunity to accelerate the company’s expansion while strengthening both internal culture and global strategic partnerships.”

All change

MycoTechnology specialises in producing innovative food and drink ingredients solutions using fungi, supplying firms around the world operating in the meat alternative, RTD beverage, dairy alternative, protein fortified snack and functional beverage categories.

Ferre will relocate to the Denver, Colorado area before taking up the role with MycoTechnology in order to be closer to the firm’s headquarters.

Commenting on the hire, Rob Case, chair of the MycoTechnology board of directors, said that Ferre is a transformative leader who can add to the company’s progress, culture, mission and values.

“With his extensive commercial experience in natural, value-added ingredients, Jordi is well-suited to lead MycoTechnology through continued growth, including the development and launch of new, naturally derived sugar reduction solutions,” he added.

Case only took up the role as chair in November after spending six years on the firm’s board.

He has senior management experience with Nestlé, including as president of Nestlé Beverages, and replaced the outgoing Alan Hahn who co-founded the business.

“I look forward to continued growth and progress toward our mission of food system transformation, as we build on existing innovations and explore new solutions from nature,” Case said in November.
