A truck carrying 400 kegs of Guinness disappeared from a depot in Northamptonshire in the run up to Christmas.

As revealed by the Guardian, a lorry with a load equivalent to 35,200 pints of Guinness went missing from a logistics hub in Daventry midway through last month.

The hub was operated by a sub-contractor that works with a logistics partner of Guinness owner Diageo.

Diageo declined to comment on the vehicle’s disappearance when approached by Food Manufacture.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether the incident has yet been reported to Northamptonshire Police.

Guinness shortage

The beer had been destined for pubs across the country faced with a shortage of Guinness due to the stout’s growing popularity.

In response to the shortage, a Diageo spokesperson told Food Manufacture that it was having to “manage the distribution” of the stout to its on-trade customers in Britain.

“Over the past month we have seen exceptional consumer demand for Guinness in GB,” the spokesperson said.

“We have maximised supply and we are working proactively with our customers to manage the distribution to trade as efficiently as possible.”
