Tiba Tempeh to launch new pack size
Plant-based food manufacturer Tiba Tempeh has created a new larger format for its original tempeh recipe, set to launch with Ocado from 20 January.
Launched to mark Veganuary 2025, the ‘Original Tempeh Block XL’ will be sold in 400g packs that feature two evenly sized tempeh blocks.
Made with fermented soybeans, tempeh is one of the fastest-growing segments in the meat-free category.
“With the significant growth of the tempeh category and Tiba being the best-selling brand in Ocado, we identified a clear opportunity for a larger-sized pack to provide great value to heavy users and larger families,” said Alexandra Longton, co-founder of Tiba Tempeh.
Meanwhile, Tiba Tempeh launched three new products in Aldi to kick off the new year, with the brand’s ‘Original Block’, ‘Soy-Marinated Pieces’ and ‘Curry-Spiced Pieces’ now available in more than 1,000 Aldi stores.
Its ‘Plant-Based Mince’ product also launched in Sainsbury’s this month.
“We are delighted to be working with Aldi to bring more naturally healthy plant-based options to consumers and to capitalise on the category growth opportunity,” added Longton.
Now listed with Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Ocado and Aldi, Tiba Tempeh saw retail sales value increase by 559% year-on-year during 2024.
“This news demonstrates the tempeh category is now mainstream as retailers expand their tempeh ranges, launch larger pack formats and the discounters capitalise on the category growth,” explained Longton.
Grubby bolsters vegan recipe offering
Plant-based recipe kit subscription service GRUBBY has bolstered its menu in time for Veganuary.
This month, GRUBBY is offering 85 recipes that are designed to be prepared in less than 30 minutes, including newly launched meals such as ‘Speedy Five Bean Chilli with Esquites Salsa’, ‘Quick Prep Sticky Korean Tempeh with Spicy Fries’ and ‘Middle Eastern Veggie Traybake’.
The Veganuary menu features GRUBBY’s best-selling ‘Everyday Favourites’ recipes, as well as a new series of dishes developed by BOSH!, the vegan chef and author duo.
Options include the ‘Gochujang Tofu Mac & Cheese’, ‘Crispy Chilli Plant-Based Beef’, ‘Peanut Butter & Tender stem Udon Soup’ and ‘Zingy Green Enchiladas with Avocado’.
Prices normally start at £28 per box, with each box including two meals for two people.
“Too many people think going plant-based means giving up some of life’s pleasures,” said GRUBBY founder Martin Holden-White.
“GRUBBY was founded to prove this isn’t the case – 80% of our customers are simply people who want to moderate their meat-in-take and build more plants into their diets for the benefit of their health and the planet.
Currently, GRUBBY delivers meals to more than 56,000 consumers nationwide, with all London meals delivered via zero emission couriers.
“We’re here to make Veganuary simple and delicious – our kits are designed to be unbelievably easy, super quick and really tasty and we hope you absolutely love them as much as we do,” added Holden-White.
One Planet Pizza secures Asda listing
One Planet Pizza has secured a nationwide listing for its plant-based ‘Tex Mex’ pizza with Asda.
The Tex Mex SKU combines One Planet Pizza’s sourdough base with plant-based cheese made from white beans and is covered with marinated vegetables and jalapeños.
The pizzas will arrive in the frozen aisle of Asda stores across the UK throughout Veganuary.
Founded in 2016 by a father and son team, One Planet Pizza hopes to build on the 41% year-on-year growth that its other pizza varieties enjoyed with Asda during 2024.
“We can’t wait to spice up Asda’s freezers with our outrageously tasty Tex Mex,” said co-founder Joe Hill.
“Our mission has always been to make vegan pizzas so good that even meat eaters want a slice. We’re super proud that our strong sales, reviews, and brand growth suggest we are doing exactly that.”
THIS adds to range of meat alternatives
Meat alternatives brand THIS has developed two new products that are hitting supermarket shelves this Veganuary.
The chilled ‘THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Kyiv’ SKU launched in Sainsbury’s on New Year’s Day, while the frozen ‘THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Wings’ SKU will be stocked by Asda and Morrisons from 6 and 13 January respectively.
The Kyivs are sold in 250g packs at £4.95 a piece and are made from soya and fava protein.
Meanwhile, each 210g pack of chicken wings will be available for £3.75. The wings include a seaweed-based crispy skin that aims to mimic the texture and taste of traditional chicken wings and can be baked, deep-fried or air-fried.
“Whether you’re fully plant-based or just plant curious this Veganuary, get ready, because THIS changes everything,” Mark Cuddigan, CEO of THIS, commented.
“We’re always pushing the boundaries when it comes to plant-based food innovation and our new Kyiv and frozen wings give consumers meat-free options that don’t compromise on flavour or texture. It’s delicious, it’s nutritious, and it’s a step closer to a world where animals aren’t food.”
